The President’s Corner Summer is finally here! I hope this newsletter finds you having a wonderful summer! As we all know, summer is a time when many people relax by the pool, vacation with family or just try to stay cool. In general, summer is a time when many charities have a lull in their fundraising efforts. So, I believe this is a good time when we as fundraisers can give back to the community. A few ideas include giving blood at the local blood bank, since blood donations decrease in the summer and the demand increases; encouraging our children to participate in the Sunkist Co.'s "Take a Stand" program (www.sunkist.com/takeastand) where Sunkist will give children a lemonade stand kit in order to raise money for a charity of their choice; or donating to a summer camp program to help a less fortunate individual have the summer of their life. These are but a few ideas to make your summer more meaningful. Please remember there will not be an AFP lunch meeting in July. Your local AFP Board of Directors wishes each of you a fun and safe Fourth of July. See you in August. Brenda Monthly Luncheon Update and Summer Social Because so many of us are enjoying summer vacations and time with our friends and families, there will not be an AFP luncheon in July. However we will be having a summer social on July 11th at the Greens. Be watching your email for more information about that! Be sure to mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 1. Ramsay Slugg, Senior Vice President, National Practice Director for Philanthropic Management with Bank of America, will present highlights from the recent report on high net-worth philanthropy conducted through the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy. AFP Member Spotlight…Laura Gamble and Rebecca Burgess
Years in Fundraising – 15 Best fundraising tip received – Keep it simple. Make sure everything you write and everything you say can be understood by a high school student. Most useful fundraising resource – The Big Red Book from The Fund Raising School at Indiana University and the AFP. Why I love non-profit work – There’s never a dull moment – always something new happening and as a Development Director, I’m involved in all aspects of the organization. I have to know the programs, the clients, the staff, everything about the organization so I’m always learning new things. Favorite quote – “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (emphasis mine) Hobbies – Scrapbooking, cooking … I’m also very involved in my church and sit on the Christian Education Committee. Family – I’ve been married to James Gamble for 25 years. We have a beautiful son, Jackson Patrick “Jack” who is 8 years old.

Why I love non-profit work – I love to help people and being a part of an organization striving to better the health and wellness of people is truly gratifying.
